"21 boats..... veterans sea wolves.... Lost in the horizon with their own boats"
The terrible storm of April 2, 1924, is a very special date for the Mar del Plata's fishermen, that causes that 21 fishing boats were lost in the sea, these boats had been located at Bristol Beach and Punta Iglesias; causing important and serious damages and great economic losses . This event, very shocking for these fishermen, meant not just the total loss their work tools, the boats, the storm took away all what belonged to them. There was only grief and hopeless between fishermen and their families! and thanks to the help organized by a commission formed by important citizens, they could get again their life: their boats !.
Situation that matches with the opening of the new Mar del Plata's port in 1924, where it is transferred to all boat, previously located in the area of Bristol Beach, where no one wanted to Fishermen immigrants.
So poetically, we could say that because of the Lost of these 21 boats, the port is what it is today!
I did this work with photos and research done by me, in the city of Mar del Plata, with research and photographic records, some of them I had obtained (old photos and information) from the Historical Archive Museum VILLA MITRE
